400 miles, 3 peaks, 2 bikes, 1
aim.....
This summer,
starting on the 6th July, we are planning to
raise a target £5000 for two charities - Cardiac
Risk in the Young and Holidays4Heroes - by
climbing the 3 Peaks (Snowdon, Scafell Pike and
Ben Nevis) and cycling the 400 miles in between
them.
Who?
The challenge
will be taken by 2 pupils from Wellington
College - Will McCreadie (14years) and Georgina
McCreadie (16 yrs). However, this is not the
whole team; there will be a support vehicle
manned by two capable men, David and Michael,
and there will be a military mountain guide for
when the going gets tough climbing up the
mountains.
What?
The 3 Peaks are the highest mountains in
England, Scotland and Wales. Together, Scafell
Pike (978m), Ben Nevis (1344m) and Snowdon
(1085m) pose a daunting but great challenge for
anyone daring to attempt them in succession.
Why?
Probably the most significant question, and
one every member of the team will be sure to ask
themselves multiple times every day from the 6th
July 2009 onwards. The main reason, of course,
is to do something for charity. We plan to do
this by aiming to raise a total of £5000+ for
the two charities we have chosen to support (CRY
and Holidays4Heroes). The other motives
for enduring the challenge are to feel the sense
of achievement after each peak; to find out
about ourselves (e.g. whether we are as strong
as we think); and to see whether we really will
successfully endure everything that we are faced
with.
Why the name?
Some people will have seen the movie 'Run,
Fat Boy, Run'. In this movie a spatula is used
for motivation by the assistant coach. It is
from this that the idea emerged......
