Despite
personal grief Doreen has a mission to save young lives.
A grieving mum’s battle to save young
lives while struggling to come to terms with the tragic death of her own
daughter has earned her a nomination for a Scottish Power/Chronicle
award.
Doreen Harley, from Connah’s Quay, is in
the running for the Your Champions Woman of the Year title.
As CRY’s (Cardiac Risk in the Young)
Divisional Representative, Doreen has worked tirelessly to bring hope to
grieving families who have lost their children to Sudden Death Syndrome,
since the death of her 27-year-old daughter Lisa.
As a trainee counsellor she also advises on
the importance of other family members being screened to prevent the
syndrome claiming even more lives.
But it’s her determination to bring a
heart screening facility to North Wales to prevent tragedy striking in
other families that has earned her the admiration of Alyn and Deeside MP
Mark Tami, who nominated her for the award.
‘Doreen has championed an extremely
worthwhile cause in attempting to bring the screening unit to North
Wales,’ said Mr Tami.
The politician launched the fundraising
drive to raise £6,666 to bring the unit to North Wales through the Chronicle after hearing of Doreen’s campaign.
‘I’m shocked to have been nominated,’
she said. ‘It’s an honour
and I’m absolutely delighted. All
I’ve done is help families who’ve lost someone to Sudden Death
Syndrome.’ |
