On Wednesday July 11th CRY hosted its annual Parliamentary
Reception at Westminster as part of its Raising Awareness Week. We were delighted to have CRY Patrons
David Walliams and
Kathryn Harries as guests of honour. The event was attended
by around 30 MPs who
came to show their support for CRY’s campaigning.
This was fewer MPs than in previous
years, but there happened to be a number of other important events also
taking place at Westminster on the evening of July 11th, so we are very
grateful to those MPs who did find the time to attend.
Other guests at the event were CRY supporters
/ families; CRY Surgery Supporters Club members; CRY Patrons Jeremy Bates, Simon Halliday,
Pat Jennings, Gary Longwell and Andy Scott;
representatives from CRY's Northern Ireland screening
clinic; event sponsors Philips; medical
professionals; representatives from sporting
organisations; CRY office and screening staff – and many others.
The event was hosted by Kevan Jones MP, Tim Loughton MP and Dr Vincent Cable MP, and was the key event in CRY’s Raising Awareness Week.
There were a number of speakers at the event,
including Andy Burnham MP (Chief Secretary to the Treasury), Professor
Roger Boyle (National Director for Heart Disease) and Ann Keen MP
(Parliamentary Under Secretary for Health Services at the Department of
Health). CRY Patron and opera singer Kathryn Harries also
performed a short song.
The Reception was heralded as a great success
by those who attended, and it was a compelling reminder of CRY's various
initiatives, and the importance of CRY's work.
