CRY's ECG Testing Programme

A cost effective way of introducing testing to the community can be achieved by CRY supporters holding a CRY ECG Testing Session.

Fundraisers can hold a Testing Session in their local area with the long term aim of offering testing in local communities once or twice a year.

The family works in conjunction with CRY’s Family Screening Manager to book a venue, advertise the event and ensure that all necessary paperwork (provided by CRY) is made available to potential clients.

All client paperwork is subsequently returned to CRY Cardiologists who review and diagnose ECGs. Clients and their GP are notified of findings and anyone found to have an abnormal ECG may be advised to undergo a full cardiac evaluation, including a further ECG, ECHO and Exercise test.

Report on Ullapool Screening

The ECG test when used in isolation is not as comprehensive as when used with the Echo, but it will detect the majority of abnormalities. This includes 97% of those young people who might be at risk of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, which is the most common cause of Sudden Death Syndrome in the UK.  Recent research has shown that 1 in 500 people have Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. The ECG test is also the definitive test for Wolfe-Parkinson-White (WPW) and Long QT Syndrome. The ECG test will not pick up Coronary Artery Anomalies or Coronary Artery Disease.
