When I was 14 I had a routine knee operation where it was discovered that I had a heart murmur. Although I had no symptoms my GP referred me to a cardiologist who diagnosed Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

I was then referred to a cardiomyopathy specialist, where I continued having investigations.

After all the tests were completed I had an internal cardiac defibrillator fitted which I will have for life. It has been over a year now, and I have never (touch wood) had to have a shock from my defib.
