Cardiac screening sessions being held in Redcar this
weekend have been fully booked.
All 37 places in the sessions organised by Kenny and
Maralyn Bowen of the Cardiac Risk in the Young ( CRY ) charity, were soon
booked up after details appeared in the Gazette.
The Bowens, of Redcar, teamed up with CRY after losing
their 19-year-old son, Ian, to a rare heart condition in 1996.
They feel Ian’s condition may have been detected if
cardiac screenings had been available.
The sessions, which have cost £4000 to set up, take
place all day today and tomorrow until 1.30pm at Redcar’s United Reform
Church.
People from across Teesside and even a couple from
Liverpool, who heard about the sessions through CRY, are turning up to
hopefully get peace of mind.
Mrs Bowen said:” The phone never stopped ringing
after it went in the Gazette. People
are starting to take more notice now, which is what we wanted to
happen.”
The screenings will be made using an ECG machine,
bought by the Bowens, and other equipment such as an Echocardiogram
brought up by staff from the St George’s Hospital in London.
