A
Lecturer will test his endurance among thousands of others when he takes
part in the biggest marathon of the year.
Les
Holleron, a 54-year-old of Plas-yn-Rhos, Penyffordd, is looking forward to
running in the London Marathon on April 14.
He is
raising money for the charity CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young, which
offers help, support and counselling to families where there has been a
sudden cardiac death of an apparently fit and healthy young person –
Sudden Death Syndrome.
Les,
who is a chartered quantity surveyor, has worked as a senior lecturer at
the North East Wales Institute in Wrexham since 1992.
He helps students work on their degrees in the field of
architecture.
It
will be the second time Les has competed in the 26-mile marathon, after
participating five years ago.
Over
the past few months he has trained hard for the big day, running in four
cities in three countries, Holland, Spain, Italy – as well as in both
England and Wales.
“When
I did the race originally, I thought I would do it again.
I hope to do the London Marathon again when I turn 60, making of
three marathons in my lifespan. So
far this year I have trained in Milan, Barcelona and I was in Amsterdam
two weeks ago. Some people
walk around the London Marathon, and that’s fine, but if you want to do
this properly you need to train for the length of the run.
I completed my last big run a week ago and I was out three hours.
At the moment I’m at my high point.
That will be it now until next month.”.
Les
added: ”I am really looking forward to it.
I work as a lecturer and am interested in young people.
That’s the reason I became involved with CRY – Cardiac Risk in
the Young. So far I have
raised nearly £1000 and hopefully I can get more.”
Supporting Les is wife
Sue and son Ross.
