Lisa King - Essex

I was born with a hole in my heart.  This went undetected until after diagnosis I had by-pass surgery to close the hole when I was age 3.  After various problems with medication I was given my first pacemaker aged 5 and my second pacemaker when I was 8.

I was then referred through to St Georges and Dr Ward.  He offered me an ablation to stop the tachycardia and I also had further surgery to re-site my pacemaker which had become very painful.  4 months later I had another successful ablation.  I owe my life to Dr Ward and St George’s and words of thanks could never be enough.  At 14 I had my third pacemaker.

It has taken quite a while to adjust to “normal” life after a childhood spent in hospital.  I have come to know my limitations and have learned to live within them.

I am very keen to help other youngsters who are going through a traumatic time.  I felt that there was no-one I could talk to about my worries when I was having surgery and although adults were kind they didn’t understand how I was feeling.

I have just completed my GCSE’s and now have a pony of my own.  Yesterday I jumped 2 foot on him for the first time, which was a wonderful feeling.

Anything is possible.
