MP bowled over by cricketer

Southern Daily Echo - 20th September  2002

A Hampshire MP met cricket legend Ian Botham at a Parliamentary Reception.

Dr Julian Lewis, who represents New Forest East, was helping to launch an all-part parliamentary group that supports the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Ian Botham is president of the charity, which is campaigning for screening in schools and colleges to detect hidden heart defects in young people.

Recently, Dr Lewis led a parliamentary debate on the issue after a constituent lost his wife to a condition known as Sudden Adult Death – SADS.
