The family of a Southampton teenager who died in his sleep of sudden adult death syndrome (SADS) have taken steps to ensure others do not suffer the same fate.

Phillip Abraham died in 1995 aged just 16 and his family have since been fundraising with Cardiac Risk in the Young to buy a special £8000 heart scanner which was presented to Bitterne Health Centre.

Phillip's mum, Mary, said:" You're in such limbo when it happens, you just can't think past tomorrow, but we didn't even know this charity existed at the time.

"It happens more often than you think.  Very often with these youngsters you would never think there's anything wrong and they don't get their hearts scanned."

The family organised events including bring-and-buy sales and quiz nights to raise the cash.
