Golfers braved the wind
and rain to raise over £3000 for Cardiac Risk in the Young - CRY on Sunday
October 7.
The Howard Jennings memorial Trophy golf
competition was set up following the sudden death, in 1996, of the 33 year-old
golfer from Kings Langley. Each year, teams, including one made up of
former work colleagues from Atlas Copco, enter the event at Little Hay Golf
Club, which supports the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young - CRY - which researches
and raises awareness of conditions which if undetected can lead to sudden
cardiac death.
Keeley Ashley, Howard's sister said:" The support was fantastic. I think with the weather, had it not been a charity
event a lot of people would not have turned up. We raised at least £3000
this year, which is great considering it tipped it down.
"We have raised over £20000 for CRY.
I was overwhelmed by the support and the determination to complete the course in
such adverse conditions."
The winner Mr Colin Jackman, who used to play
golf with Mr Jennings, has competed in the event each year along with one of Mr Jennings'
workmates, project engineer Mr Peter Dean. Mr Dean said: "
It was pouring with rain, and the game was extremely slow, but at least we
completed it. Considering the conditions we all played rather well.
The eighteenth was like a pond, the nineteenth was a large steaming mug of
coffee.
