Members of a dancing school may have been
singing in the rain complete with umbrellas at a charity summer fair at
the weekend, but there wasn’t a drop of the stuff to be seen.
Blue skies and bright sunshine on Sunday
made sure the fundraising day in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young was a
big success.
Main
attractions at the event at the Botleigh Park Hotel in Hedge End included
the West End Carnival Show Band and Pat Stanford’s school of dance with
its version of Singing in the Rain.
Visitors to the grounds of the hotel on
Winchester Road also enjoyed demonstrations by the Phoenix Cheer Leaders,
took a ride with Roy Rogers and Trigger the Train and saw a display of
classic cars.
All the old favourites were there too,
including hook-a-duck, hoopla, bouncy castles, and a variety of stalls.
Organiser of the event, Mary Abraham, said
she was relieved that the weather had behaved.
“We have been very lucky with the
weather,” she said. “The
day has been going well.”
CRY is a charity working with families
affected by sudden death syndrome – an umbrella term used for the many
different causes of unexpected heart attacks in young people.
Mary, whose son Philip died suddenly from a
mysterious heart condition nine years ago, is hoping to raise as much as
£1,000 for the charity.
