hundreds of bereaved families
The agonising wait endured by many
families following the sudden – and tragic – death of a child or partner
could soon be over as London opens the UK’s first ever ‘fast-track’
pathology laboratories to help analyse the causes of unexpected cardiac
death in ‘apparently’ fit and healthy young people. |

Following recent deaths of footballers at
Walsall and Seville, and another near-fatal incident at Leicester, CRY Patron

for all professional footballers. Andy Scott's own playing career

Heart of London Bridges Walk - July 2007
Andy Scott joined fellow CRY Patron Kathryn
Harries, and over 400 CRY supporters, on an 8km sponsored walk crossing 8
London bridges. The 8 bridges each signified one of the 8 apparently 'fit
and healthy' young people who die every week in the UK from undiagnosed
heart conditions. |

Surgery Supporters Club meeting - September 2006
We had a brilliant Surgery
Supporters Club meeting, the highlight of which was the surprise visit
of CRY Patron Andy Scott, who popped in to bring a present for our 2
football-mad young boys - 10 year old Arie Hunt, and 11 year old Jamiel
Brinklow-Harries - who have both been recently diagnosed with Long QT
syndrome, and told they must stop playing. Andy had to abruptly
terminate his professional football career when he was diagnosed with Hypertrophic
Cardiomyopathy, and had plenty of tips as to how they would still be able to
enjoy other aspects of the game, as he has learnt to do. |

Press Release: One year after the
publication of the new NSF Chapter 8 - March 2006
Today, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) publishes the
results of a new survey which indicates that one year on since the
introduction of Chapter 8: Arrhythmias and Sudden Cardiac Death of the
National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease, a staggering 97% of all
Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) interviewed said they had failed to develop a
strategy for implementing any of the new Chapter’s specific guidelines for
children and young people. |
