Stocking-up for Christmas

The Argus (City Edition) - 18th November 2005

A Mayor’s Christmas Bazaar will sell stacks of festive goods in aid of a children’s charity.

Eastbourne Mayor Graham Marsden will host the event at the Old Parsonage, St Mary’s Church, Old Town, Eastbourne, on December 3 from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Stalls will sell sweets, raffles, home-made Christmas cards, cakes, toys, home-made chutneys and marmalades.

Proceeds from the day will go to the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), Councillor Marsden’s chosen charity.

Councillor Marsden, a retired teacher at Cavendish School in Eldon Road, Eastbourne, taught tragic Jeremy Cole geography before his death aged 14 from sudden cardiac syndrome (SADS) ten years ago.

Since the tragedy Jeremy’s parents, Nigel and Jenny, have led a campaign calling for widespread cardiac screening to help parents detect heart problems in their children.

Councillor Marsden said he hoped as many people as possible would attend the bazaar.
