Unfortunately our hotel was busy during CRY's
Raising Awareness Week (10th to 18th October) so it had to be October 31st.
I e-mailed
everyone we knew including all Stuart's friends and it wasn’t long before we
had sold 203 tickets which was the maximum number our biggest room could
hold!!! I could have sold twice that many.
The night
arrived and the room looked amazing – all in red and white Arsenal colours
with CRY balloons everywhere. We had 75 Raffle prizes and 22 Auction Lots.
Due to the generosity of our friends, hotel suppliers and family we had to
take very little out of the ticket money and have made nearly £12,000
for CRY.
It was a
fantastic evening with all having a really good time. That was the idea - it
was not to be a sad evening. Simon (Stuart's brother) and Lucy (his sister)
did a great job auctioneering. I made a speech explaining to everyone what
CRY did and why there was such a need for the charity and Dad saw to the
meal being served.
A standing
ovation at the end reduced us all to tears but the main thing was Stuart
would have been very proud and we made a lot of money for CRY.
