A Wirral band are releasing a charity single dedicated to the memory of an 11-year-old from Oxton who died from an undiagnosed heart condition.

Daywalker have just finished recording Girl, which will raise money for the CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) charity.

The song was written by James Poynton, a budding musician and talented sportsman who died suddenly two years ago.

The single will be available for download through www.c-r-y.org.uk/girl.htm at Daywalker gigs and from selected shops.

Daywalker guitarist Barry Waring said: "I knew James since the day he was born, I also know his dad and am a close friend of the family.

"James's death was the single most shocking experience of my life and I hope that his song can help raise money and try and make more people aware of SDS - Sudden Death Syndrome."

James, a pupil at Wirral Grammar School, died in June 2006 while walking on West Kirby beach with his family and friends.

Before his death, James asked Barry to set the lyrics to Girl to music and Barry later played the finished son at his funeral.

Daywalker vocalist Dave Robinson said: "Any money made from the sale of this single will go direct to the CRY appeal, so we urge people to go out and buy it.

"We also need help from anybody out there who may be able to help us promote it.

"The single is a donation download, which means that in order to download it, you can donate as little or as much as you like."

Dr Steven Cox, deputy chief executive of CRY, said: "Every week eight apparently fit and healthy young people die in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions.

"CRY was founded in May 1995 to help raise awareness of the conditions that cause Sudden Cardiac Death and what can be done to prevent these tragedies."

Donations to the James Poynton Memorial Fund can also be made via www.justgiving.com/girl or by sending a cheque to CRY, Unit 7, Epsom Downs Metro Centre, Waterfield, Tadworth, Surrey KT20 5LR.

A note should be enclosed to say your donation is for the song Girl and is to go to the James Poynton Memorial Fund.
