Villa
heroes scored a winner by helping to raise thousand of pounds towards a
club worker who fell into a coma.
Stars
of Aston Villa’s 1982 European Cup winning squad teamed up again to play
a charity match for heart charity CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young –
and City Hospital.
The
match in honour of former Villa employee Dominic Lilley, ended 14-0 to the
professionals and raised £4,000 for the cause.
Dom,
a 20-year-old musician from Yardley, collapsed suddenly from a heart
attack last July and was only brought out of his coma by the sounds of
rock bands The Jam and The Clash playing next to his hospital bed.
He
is still recovering at Moseley Hall Hospital with the help of friends and
relatively, who organised the charity match at Sedgemere Sports and Social
Club in Yardley.
Friend
Andrew Russell said: “It was a superb day.
We raised much more than expected.
The Villa players were great on the day.
“We
were really disappointed though as we didn’t get one goal and missed a
penalty.”
Dom’s
old school friends from Cockshut Hill School in Yardley took part in the
fundraiser with Villa players including Nigel Spink, Gordan Cowans and Des
Bremner.
