Ex-Villa stars play
again
STARS of Villa’s 1982
European Cup winning squad will be dusting off their boots for a charity
match in aid of a former club employee who has just come out of a coma.
Dominic Lilley, aged 20,
from Yardley, collapsed in a city centre bar last July while out with
friends. He had suffered a
heart attack.
Progress
Although
Dom was rushed to hospital, his brain had been deprived of oxygen for too
long leaving the sports mad youngster in a coma for almost a month.
Dom is now making steady progress during his rehabilitation at
Moseley Hall Hospital but has been left with severe mental and physical
disabilities. Now his friends
have organised a charity football match in his honour with all proceeds
from the event going to the charity C-R-Y, which aims to raise awareness
of Cardiac Risk in the Young.
Cash will also go to
Birmingham’s City Hospital where Dom was initially treated.
His old school friends from Cockshut Hill School in Yardley and
regulars from the local Ring O’ Bells pub will be among those turning
out for the match.
Friend Andrew Russell,
who is organising the game, said: “Dom is actually an Arsenal supporter
but used to work at Aston Villa. We
understand the Villa Old Stars are made up of great players like Nigel
Spink, Gordan Cowans, Des Bremner and Gary Shaw so it should be some
game.”
Entry to the game, which
kicks-off at 1pm at the Sedgemere Sports and Social Club in Sedgemere Road
on August 8, is by programme only, costing £2.50 from Domvilla@aol.com
or on the gate on the day.
After the game there will
be a raffle and sports auction including an England shirt signed by Paul
Gascoigne and items signed and donated by Liverpool, Man City, Everton,
Celtic, Rangers and Birmingham City.
Former England rugby star Rory Underwood has also submitted an
autographed item.
