Hundreds raised in memory of tragic footballer Gary

Bootle Times - 18th August 2005

A fundraising night held in memory of a Bootle man who died suddenly while playing football raised £600.

Gary Burke, 24, from Fernhill Road, was born with a heat defect that could have killed him at any time.

He died in January while playing five-a-side with friends at St Wilfrid’s High School in Litherland.

His family presented a cheque to the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) after the fundraiser at The Stanley Social Club.
