Car Jump for CRY - in memory of Ben Thorn

 29th August 2005

On the August Bank Holiday Monday, Lee Paulson successfully completed an amazing Car Jump - to help raise awareness of CRY, and to raise money for CRY in memory of Ben Thorn.  The event took place on a glorious day at The Oval Race Track, Water Lane, Angmering, West Sussex.

Lee - driving a Rover 216 Sprint covered in CRY logos - leapt over 9 other cars in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd.  The CRY car survived the jump intact, although the heavy landing did leave Lee without any brakes!  Fortunately he did manage to bring the car to a stop using the handbrake and a boggy patch of the landing area!

His fantastic feat was captured in the brilliant photos below, and also on video (click to play).

Afterwards, Lee said: "I would like to thank everyone involved especially Jim for allowing me to go ahead with the jump. It was a fantastic experience and if Jim will allow it I want to try 12 next year once my neck has fully healed."

Later on in the day, there was a raffle at the Windmill pub in Rustington, with a prize of a meal for four, with wine, at the pub.  The winning ticket was drawn by Lee.

Many thanks to all at The Oval Race Club (www.ovalraceclub.co.uk) for helping to stage the Car Jump.

Before the jump

Take off....

Soaring through the air....

Coming down....

Back to Earth with a bump....

Well done Lee!
