The fine grass courts at Frinton Lawn Tennis Club
were in play for the final two tournaments of the summer season.
The sun shone for both events, as it has on all
but one of the year's many tournament days.
The
Colchester and District League's 80th individual Championship finals were
held at the club and Frinton's men enjoyed a particularly successful day.
Colin
Minter and Jon Oates won the Carr-Ellison Cup for the fourth year running,
while Matt Byford went home with the Jeffrey Cup for the third time in as
many years and, with Mark Grover, he won the Herring Cup, also for the third
successive year.
Mark
and Natalie Grover won the John Shippey Cup for the fourth time.
Winners of this year's Colchester and District League were presented with
trophies after the conclusion of the championship finals.
Four
Frinton teams came top of their divisions.
Frinton men's A won the men's premier division for the second year running,
Frinton ladies B won ladies' division one, Frinton mixed C won the
mixed division two and Frinton mixed D won mixed division five.
On
Sunday the club staged a charity tournament in aid of CRY (Cardiac Risk in
the Young.)
Sixty-five players enjoyed an afternoon of very social grass court tennis
followed by tea in the clubhouse, with Graham McNamara and Chris Hoult
declared winners of the day and £750 was raised for CRY.
