CMA / CRY Conference on the new NSF chapter on Arrhythmias and Sudden Cardiac Death

The Royal Society of Medicine

July 5th, 8.30am - 4.30pm

A great deal of CRY's focus over the last 18 months has been directed towards the introduction of a new chapter in the National Service Framework.  Chapter 8, on Arrhythmias and Sudden Cardiac Death, was announced by then Secretary of State for Health John Reid, on March 4th.

CRY are delighted to have worked in partnership with the Cardiomyopathy Association in taking the next crucial step forward, by hosting the first national conference addressing the new guidelines set out in Chapter 8.  The aim of the conference was to raise awareness and inform GPs and Primary Care Teams.  The conference was well attended by GPs, hospital doctors, nurses, representatives of PCTs, cardiologists, voluntary groups and families who had been affected by sudden cardiac death.

It is critical that the new NSF guidelines are noted and implemented.  Our challenge is to facilitate getting information about our conference to GPs and into hospitals.  The conference represented an outstanding opportunity for the Primary Care Teams to learn how to properly recognise and manage affected individuals.

Amongst the speakers at the conference were Dr. Roger Boyle, Professor William McKenna, Dr. Sanjay Sharma and CRY Chief Executive Alison Cox.
