CRYSWIM 2010

CRYSWIM 2010 is a national swimming event appealing mainly (but not exclusively) to Primary and Secondary Schools to celebrate the Swim4life initiative launched last April and to fundraise for CRY.

The Swim4Life initiative - when over a thousand local pools offered free swimming to people aged 60 and over and 16 and under - gave 20 million people the chance to swim for free in pools the length and breadth of England. This initiative was introduced by Andy Burnham (right) when he was Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport and was greatly welcomed – particularly by under 16s.

Now Secretary of State for Health and a long time supporter of CRY, Andy Burnham has committed himself to doing the Great North Swim across Lake Windermere on 4th September 2010, for CRY’s 15th Anniversary year

How can YOU get involved in CRYSWIM 2010?

The CRYSWIM 2010 initiative runs from 1st March 2010 to 30th November 2010.

The aims of CRYSWIM 2010 are (1) to raise awareness of free swimming for under 16’s, which has been hugely welcomed by so many schoolchildren; and (2) to fundraise for CRY through sponsoring Andy’s Great North Swim.

CRY would like schools - and individuals - to support Andy's swim by organising sponsored swimming events of their own all around the country.

Anyone organising a sponsored swim to support Andy and raise funds for CRY can register their event online at www.cryswim4andy.org

The first 10,000
people registered will receive a CRY 15th anniversary wristband, and the first 10,000 people sending in their fundraising cheques will receive a CRY swim bag and drinks bottle.

WHY should we bother?

  • Because YOUNG PEOPLE have so enjoyed having free swimming and this is a great way to say ‘thank-you’ to Andy.

  • Because some may have forgotten that this initiative is out there and that 200 local councils throughout England have signed up - if YOURS has not done so YOU might want to find out why!

  • Because YOUR fundraising will go to CRY which is a charity for YOUNG people that is committed to saving YOUNG lives.

  • Because you / your school will be profiled on the CRY website and in the local newspaper if it takes part.

  • Because YOU/YOUR CLASS could get THEIR photos and THEIR video, talking about THEIR SWIM, on the CRY website - which gets around 2,500 visitors a day.
