The Swim4Life initiative - when over a thousand local pools
offered free swimming to people aged 60 and over and 16 and under - gave
20 million people the chance to swim for free in pools the length and
breadth of England. This
initiative was introduced by Andy Burnham (right) when he was Secretary
of State for Culture Media and Sport and was greatly welcomed –
particularly by under 16s.
Now Secretary of State for Health and a long time supporter of
CRY, Andy Burnham has committed himself to doing the
Great North Swim across Lake Windermere on 4th September
2010,
for CRY’s 15th Anniversary year.
How can YOU get involved in CRYSWIM
2010?
The CRYSWIM 2010 initiative runs
from 1st March 2010 to 30th November 2010.
The aims of CRYSWIM 2010 are (1) to raise
awareness of free swimming for under 16’s, which has been hugely
welcomed by so many schoolchildren; and (2) to fundraise for CRY
through sponsoring Andy’s Great North Swim.
CRY would like schools - and
individuals - to support Andy's swim by organising sponsored
swimming events of their own all around the country.
Anyone organising a sponsored swim to support Andy and raise
funds for CRY can register their event online at
