Hitting 40 is an occasion
many dread and something most would like to keep quiet – but not Cheryl
Evans.
Generous Cheryl, of
Liverpool Road, Ewloe, organised her own 40th birthday party
last weekend and asked for no presents, just donations to Cardiac Risk in
the Young (CRY).
Cheryl, who works as a
nursery nurse at St David’s Park Hotel in Ewloe, as a support worker at
Saltney Primary School and as a respite worker for the Diana Nurses in
Mancot, held her party at the Carlton Club, Shotton, last Saturday.
‘About 100 people came
to my party and I asked them all to donate money instead of bringing
presents’ she said. ‘All the
money raised will be going to CRY because I think it’s fantastic, the
work they do.’
CRY is an independent
charity which screens children for heart problems if it is thought they
may be at risk. Currently, there is no automatic cardiac screening for
children.
'I feel angry that
children can’t be screened as a matter of course and I think it should
be offered on their 14th birthday,’ said Cheryl.
‘My son has been screened by CRY and I
wanted to raise the money for them as a ‘thank you’.’
