In 2005 Folkestone Invicta's Paul Sykes died
suddenly during a football match, aged just 28.
This month his mother Patricia Berry is travelling
to London with her family to take part in the emotional annual fund-raising
walk in support of the Cardiac Risk in the Young charity.
This event, on Sunday, July 20, is now in its
second year and has already become the flagship in the charity's calendar.
CRY is inviting families, existing and new
supporters - and anyone whose lives have been touched by this tragic
condition, sudden cardiac death, to join the eight-kilometre walk across
eight of London's bridges from Victoria Embankment and Westminster to London
Bridge.
Walkers will again be led by world-famous opera
star and veteran fund-raiser Kathryn Harries, who will be joined by a
professional fitness instructor to help the crowd warm up before the walk.
CRY was launched 13 years ago to raise awareness
of the conditions that can lead to sudden and unexplained cardiac death in
young people. all of whom were apparently fit and healthy.
Chief executive and founder of the charity, Alison
Cox, said: "We are delighted that Patricia and her family will be joining us
again at this challenging and emotional event and we'll all be supporting
them every step of the way."
Patricia aims to help the charity raise £80,000
from the walk.
