Dover postman Peter Sykes completed the London
Marathon in just under four hours on Sunday, the day after the third
anniversary of the death of his brother Paul.
Peter was raising money for Cardiac Risk in the
Young, a national charity which helps detect heart irregularities in young
people.
Former Dover Athletic player Paul Sykes collapsed
and died during a football match at Folkestone Invicta in 2005.
A post-mortem examination revealed he had an
undiagnosed heart defect.
Peter crossed the finishing line in three hours 55
minutes. He was running with another friend of Paul's, Andrew Davis,
who finished in four hours three minutes.
Other Dover runners who completed the marathon
were Phillip Coleman in four hours 58 minutes, Paul McCarthy (5.06), husband
and wife team Mike and Angela Corbo (5.19 and 5.27 respectively), and Jane
Hughes, Nikki Stokes and Daran Wilkins (all in 5.42).
