Stars turn out for sykes

Dover Mercury - 4th May 2006

Kent footballers past and present came together at Hartsdown Park on Sunday too honour the memory of Paul Sykes.

Two teams managed by Dover Athletic managers past and present, Clive Walker and Chris Kinnear, produced an entertaining fame in memory of Sykes, who collapsed and died whilst playing for Folkestone Invicta against Margate in a Kent Senior Cup tie last April.

Walker's "Blues" team ran out winners 3-1 thanks to goals from Danny Spiller (2) and Steve Hafner after former Phil Collins had given Kinnear's "Reds" team the lead.

Kinnear said afterwards: "Today's match gave us the chance to celebrate Paul's contribution to football and the type of person he was, and it was also great for his wife Carly and his son Thomas, and all the rest of Paul's family."

The proceeds from the match go to Carly and Thomas.
