Book sale to boosts charity

Ealing Gazette  -  14th  May 2010

A charity book sale in memory of schoolboy Tom Calbburn, who died of an undiagnosed heart problem, is being held tomorrow (Saturday).

The sale, in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young and featuring new and second-hand books, is outside Munson's coffee shop in St Mary's Road, Ealing, from 10am to 4pm.

Tom, who died in October 2007, aged 14, was a pupil at Drayton Manor High School.  He played football for Hanwell and was a member of Questors community theatre group.

His family, of Elers Road, Ealing, and his friends have raised more than £30,000 for the charity since his death.

Tom's mum, Claire Prosser, said: "We are very grateful for the continuing support of the local community, in this case Munson's, for allowing us to have the sale outside.

"There will be plenty of new books, so it's worth coming along to grab a bargain and raise money for a good cause."

The charity raises awareness of conditions that can lead to sudden unexpected death.  It says 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die each week from undiagnosed heart conditions.
