A group of carol singers have volunteered to
provide live, festive entertainment at the mayor's Christmas bazaar.
This is to take place tomorrow (Saturday) from 10.30am - 12.30pm at the Old
Parsonage, St Mary's church in Old Town. They will perform a variety
of carols in different styles including some solos.
All funds raised will go to the Mayor's chosen
charity - CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
Mayor Graham Marsden said:
"The carol singers will provide a festive
background to what I hope will be a great event.
"This is an early opportunity to buy those
important present for your nearest and dearest."
Entry is 50p, which includes coffee or tea and
biscuits, and fresh pizza will be on sale. There will be a bottle
tombola and goods on sale will include delicious home-made preserves,
marmalades and sweets. Stock up on hand-made Christmas cards, tree
decorations, and buy some nearly-new toys for the children's stockings.
Don't forget to buy plenty of raffle tickets for a
chance to win a selection of fine prizes, brose the bookstall, guess the
weight of a beautiful cake and buy gifts from a selection of unusual items -
all whilst supporting a worthy cause.
The mayor chose to support CRY as his charity
during his term of office. This was not only because of its importance
in raising awareness of this type of sudden death and providing support for
grieving families, but also because a young Cavendish School student, known
to the mayor, died suddenly in 1995 with no warning that anything was wrong.
