eBay
for Charity
If you sell items on eBay, it is now possible
to donate a percentage of the sale value to CRY. This scheme was
re-launched in May 2008 to make it even easier for sellers to donate to
charity.
The eBay for Charity scheme was piloted by the
BBC's Children in Need appeal, and is now open to all charities that register
for the scheme. You can read more about how to support CRY via eBay for Charity at
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/community/charity/index.html
Waitrose - Community
Matters
Supermarket
chain
Waitrose has announced
that charity funding is being made available through a new initiative called
Community Matters. Through this scheme £1,000 a month will be given to each
Waitrose store to distribute amongst three local charities or community
projects - as chosen by Waitrose customers and employees.
As
part of the scheme, each customer will be given a token at the checkout
which they can place into a box representing their preferred good cause.
The amount of money each charity receives will be in direct proportion to
the number of tokens allocated by customers (e.g. £500 if a charity gets
exactly half of all the tokens). Each month, Waitrose staff vote on which
three charity applications will be supported.
To be considered for a donation, good causes and
charities are asked to get in touch with their local Waitrose branch.
If there is a branch of Waitrose near you, please suggest CRY as one of the
charities to benefit from this scheme!

Giveacar
charity car scrappage scheme
Do you own a banger that’s
merely gathering dust in the garage? Then you can do your bit for
charity!
Giveacar is a UK based fundraising organisation that specialises in
donating unwanted and scrap cars to charitable causes throughout the world,
including CRY.
They provide a FREE service
which is available throughout the UK, and can work with you hand-in-hand by
arranging the collection of the vehicle; and - depending on its age and
condition - they can either send it for environmentally safe disposal and
recycling at an Authorised Treatment Facility, or to a salvage auction.
This means that a large portion of the proceeds are donated to a nominated
charity of the vehicle owner’s choice!
Since Giveacar was set up in
2010, the organisation has already raised over £350,000 for over 250
charities!
To arrange collection of a
car, visit
Giveacar.co.uk or call 020 0011 1664, quoting CRY as your preferred
charity.
"Stamps N All" specialist recycling for
charity
 "Stamps
N All" is a specialist recycling company that passes on the proceeds from
recycling donated items to the charities nominated by the people donating
the recyclable items. That is, as a CRY supporter, you can send
specific recyclable items (listed below) to "Stamps N All" and CRY
will get the proceeds from the recycling of your specific donation.
"Stamps N All" accept the following:
-
Any stamps
and stamp collections - used or unused. If they
are on envelopes or cards, please leave about half a centimetre
around the edges. Please don't peel off stamps - it
reduces their value. If the stamps are on envelopes or
cards postmarked before 1970, do not remove them! This is
because they can be worth more as a collectible item if still
complete on the envelope.
-
Envelopes
and first-day covers - old, interesting-looking and
even with their letters in!
-
Postcards
- with or without stamps on, but please don't remove stamps from
postcards if they are on them.
-
Pre-1940s birthday
cards and WW1 silk cards.
-
Coins and
bank notes - old or new, from anywhere in the world,
obsolete or otherwise. Maybe unspent holiday currency?
-
Precious
metals and old keys - including broken jewellery, old
trophies, gold, silver; and 'mystery keys' from the bottoms of
drawers!
-
Watches, mobile
phones, medals, badges.

Items that you wish to donate for
recycling should be posted to:
Stamps N All, Dept CRY, PO Box 83, Bude,
EX23 0WY
Note - this is not a Freepost address so you
will need to pay postage to send your items. For this
reason it generally going to be most cost-effective to gather
together a large collection of recyclable items before sending them
(rather than sending things in dribs and drabs) and either using a
cheap postal option (e.g. Standard Parcels rate) or amassing a big
enough collection (maybe with the help of friends, family,
colleagues, etc) that "Stamps N All" will arrange a free pick-up of
the items.
Please do not send your recyclable items to CRY - they must be sent
to the address above. |
If you have a large amount of items to
donate, call "Stamps N All" on 0845 257 0813 (Mon - Fri, 9am to 5pm) to
discuss whether it might be possible for your items to be collected.

NOTES:
* When checking coins, any
found to be made from precious metals are paid at a higher rate, depending
on bullion price on date received.
** Charities
do not need to sort any of the items
above, this is strongly discouraged as the time can be better spent on other
more productive Charity business. The prices quoted are for lots that come
in pre-sorted.
*** Mobile Phones damaged and
chargers. No payment made but these do not go to landfill.
More information about charity fundraising via "Stamps N All" can be found
on the
"Stamps N All" website.
