MP backs heart death campaign

Evening Advertiser (Swindon) - 21st July 2004

South Swindon MP Julia Drown has backed a hard-hitting national campaign highlighting the hundreds of sudden cardiac deaths in young people.

The campaign features eight people under 38 who died from previously undetected heart conditions and represent the eight lives lost each week in the UK to the condition.

Cardiac Risk in the Young unveiled a postcard showing the faces of the eight, which it plans to send out to supporters in the hope they will pass them on to the local MPs and encourage them to join an all party Parliamentary group.

New cards will be launched each month showing victims from different regions.

Ms Drown said: “I applaud the charity for tackling the issue of sudden death in the young in such a brave and emotive way.  It should certainly make the public and all MPs take notice of their important work and pledge to their campaign.”
