Teenagers step on it for charity bike ride

Express & Star (Wolverhampton) -  24th March  2008

Two big-hearted teenagers are seeking sponsorship for a charity bike ride.  Sophie Lockley and Grace Collins are getting into shape for a marathon cycle ride in aid of a charity which raises awareness of cardiac risks in young people.

Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) supports those who have suffered a loss through a network of affected families and counselling.

Now the girls, former pupils of Aldridge School, are to put their pedal power into practice by taking part in a gruelling 270-mile sponsored ride from London to Paris.

Sophie, aged 19, of Green Lane, Sheffield, said they decided to support the charity after Grace's brother Oliver Hewitt died from the rare cytomegalovirus myocarditis infection in 2006, aged 23.

Now the pair are in training for the ride organised by group Skyline and will join 260 other people for the trip from June 11 to 15.

They hope to raise £2,200 in sponsorship cash which will go towards a heart screening facility in Aldridge.

Grace, of Lazy Hill Road, Aldridge, is due to celebrate her 19th birthday on the day they are due to arrive in Paris.
