Tri-ing for charity cash

Express & Star (Wolverhampton) - 2nd July 2005

Determined pair able to complete challenge

Two Rugeley women raised £1,500 for good causes when they finished their first triathlon.

Katherine Hill and Samantha Batey took part in the event at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire and were raising money for the charities Cardiac Risk in the Young and Cancer Research.

They completed a 750 metre swim, cycled 20 kilometres and then did a five kilometre run, and said the event had tested their levels of fitness and sheer determination.

They completed the event in a respectable time of just over two hours.

Miss Hill, of Queen Street, said: “It was pretty hard going, especially the swim in the lake, but it was great to cross the finish line still in one piece.”

The pair thanked everyone who had sponsored them for their generosity.
