CRY Family Medical Conference

June 2010 (TBC)

Institute of Child Health, 30 Guilford Street, London, WC1N 1EH  (TBC)

The annual CRY Family Medical Conference is for families (and friends) bereaved due to young sudden cardiac death.

The day will particularly interest those who would like to:

  • Better understand the structure of the heart, the relevance of the CRY cardiac screening programme, and the importance of research

  • Learn more about heart conditions that can kill apparently fit and healthy young people, and question experts about these conditions

  • Better understand the roles of the coroner and pathologist in dealing with these deaths

  • Meet others who have suffered a similar loss to themselves

Places at this event cost £20 per person (to cover the cost of lunch and refreshments).  Details about how to book for the 2010 event will appear on this page next year.

Agenda          Speakers          Venue

For 4 years, CRY ran an annual Bereavement Support Day in London that incorporated both expert medical information and workshops for those bereaved by a young sudden cardiac death.

The evaluation forms we received suggested that those who found the expert medical information helpful would have liked more time spent on these talks (particularly requesting the opportunity to ask questions), and those who had benefited from the bereavement workshops said they would have liked more time for bereavement support.

Consequently, the CRY Bereavement Support Day has now been split into 2 separate initiatives - an annual CRY Family Medical Conference; and several annual Regional Bereavement Support Days which are held in different parts of the country throughout the year.

The annual CRY Family Medical Conference features expert cardiologists speaking and explaining the life-threatening cardiac conditions that can affect young people.

Other expert speakers, such as pathologists and coroners, also explain their roles in the event of a young sudden cardiac death.

After each speaker, families have the opportunity to put their questions to these experts.

It is unfortunately not possible for children under the age of 12 to attend this event
