For 4 years, CRY ran an annual Bereavement Support Day in London
that incorporated both expert medical
information and workshops for those bereaved by a young sudden cardiac
death.
The evaluation forms we received suggested
that those who found the expert medical information helpful would have liked
more time spent on these talks (particularly requesting the opportunity to
ask questions), and those who had benefited from the bereavement workshops
said they would have liked more time for bereavement support.
Consequently, the CRY Bereavement Support
Day has now been split into 2 separate initiatives - an annual CRY Family Medical Conference; and several annual Regional Bereavement Support Days which
are held in
different parts of the country throughout the year.
The annual CRY
Family Medical Conference features expert cardiologists speaking and explaining the
life-threatening cardiac conditions that can affect young people.
Other expert speakers, such as
pathologists and coroners, also explain their roles in the
event of a young sudden cardiac death.
After
each speaker, families have the opportunity to put their questions
to these experts.
It is unfortunately not possible for
children under the age of 12 to attend this event
