The annual CRY Family Medical Conference Day is for families (and friends) bereaved due to young sudden cardiac death.

Dr Elijah Behr MA MBBS MRCP Specialist Registrar Cardiology at Cardiological Sciences, St George’s Hospital Medical School; will talk about heart rhythm conditions (Ion channellopathies, Wolfe Parkinson White Syndrome) in young people. Elijah wrote the CRY SADS booklet “When a young person dies suddenly” that was funded by the British Heart Foundation.

Dr Sanjay Sharma BSc. MBChB FRCP (UK) MD Consultant Cardiologist, Director of Heart Muscle Disease at King’s College Hospital, London; will talk about heart muscle and artery conditions (cardiomyopathies, premature coronary artery disease, coronary artery anomalies) in young people. Sanjay wrote the medical information for Dari Taylor MP’s Cardiac Risk in the Young (Screening) Bill that led to a new chapter on Arrhythmias and Sudden Death being drafted for the National Service Framework.

Dr Mary Sheppard B. BCH. BAO, BSc. MD. FRCPath Senior Lecturer/Consultant, Department of Histopathology, National Heart & Lung Institute, Royal Brompton Hospital, London; on the role of the expert cardiac pathologist and the CRY pathology grant facilitating a fast track service for sudden cardiac death.

Michael Burgess on the role of the coroner in young sudden cardiac death. Michael was for 12 years Honorary Secretary to the Coroners Society of England and Wales; is currently H.M. Coroner for Surrey and Coroner of The Queen’s Household; and wrote the Coroners contribution for the New NSF Chapter on Arrhythmias and Sudden Death.
