The annual CRY Family Medical Conference Day is for families (and friends) bereaved due to young sudden cardiac death.

Penny Schofield on the role of the coroner in young sudden death.  Penny is coroner for West Sussex.

Dr Mary Sheppard B. BCH. BAO. BSc. MD. FRCPath Senior Lecturer/Consultant, Department of Histopathology, National Heart & Lung Institute, Royal Brompton Hospital, London; on the role of the expert cardiac pathologist and the importance of the CRY pathology grant facilitating a fast track service for sudden cardiac death.

Dr Elijah Behr MA MBBS MRCP Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Electrophysiologist, Cardiac and Vascular Division, St George’s Hospital, London; will talk about arrhythmias (Ion channelopathies) in young people.  Elijah wrote the CRY SADS booklet “when a young person dies suddenly” that was funded by the British Heart Foundation.

Dr Sanjay Sharma BSc. MBChB FRCP (UK) MD FESC Consultant Cardiologist, Director of Heart Muscle Disease at King’s College Hospital, London; will talk about heart muscle conditions (cardiomyopathies) and other conditions that can predispose to young sudden cardiac death.  Sanjay wrote the medical information for Dari Taylor MP’s Cardiac Risk in the Young (Screening) Bill that led to a new chapter on Arrhythmias and Sudden Death being drafted for the National Service Framework.  He is also the London Marathon doctor and is the only British representative on the EACPR Sports Cardiology Section Nucleus (an elite committee within the European Society of Cardiology).
