Family and friends of a young Tayport woman who
died from an undiagnosed heart condition have raised money for a charity which
aims to find the causes of such tragedies.
A
cheque for £2,375 has been presented to CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) by
Colin, Val and Laney Graham in memory of their daughter and sister Leigh.
The money was raised by
holding a party night in the Bell Rock Tavern, Tayport, as well as raffles and
a sponsored Tay swim by family friend and neighbour Suzanne Sneddon.
Leigh, who died three years
ago last month, was educated at Madras College, and worked as a sales manager
with Argos in St Andrews before taking a similar post with the larger
Glenrothes branch just a few months before her untimely passing.
Every week, at least eight
apparently ‘fit and healthy’ young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions
in the UK.
CRY – which lists Ian Botham
and Sir Steve Redgrave among its patrons – has been formed to assist those who
have been bereaved and to fun research into the causes of sudden heart failure
in the young.
