Heart check for triathlete

Frinton & Walton Gazette -  21st May 2009

A fundraising athlete has had his heart scanned to raise awareness of heart problems in the young.

Phil Aiken, 40, of Hubbards Chase, Walton, will take part in the London Triathlon in August in memory of family friend Andy Gard, who died shortly before his 18th birthday in 1997 from an undiagnosed heart condition.

He hopes to raise £1,000 for charity Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Mr Aiken had his heart scanned at Colchester General Hospital's cardio-respiratory department on Saturday to raise awareness of the charity's work.

Cardiac tests are aimed at those aged between 14 and 35 and cost £35.
