A pioneering
cardiac clinic has had another successful screening for the residents of
Tendring.
CRY (Cardiac Risk in the
Young) held its fourth clinic on Saturday as a way of testing people aged from
14 to 35 for any heart abnormalities.
The clinic, one of just a few
in the country, was established through the parents of Andrew Gard from
Frinton who died just two days before his 18th birthday in 1997 of
a sudden cardiac death.
A total of 13 people came to
have their hearts screened with an ECG (electrocardiogram) and are awaiting
results, which will be checked by a cardiologist in London.
Andrew’s mum, Caroline, of
Glebe Way, said the event had been a success, but they hoped that more people
would go to the next screening.
That will be held on May 21
with the aim of detecting previously undiagnosed heart conditions for a
greatly subsidised cost of £35.
Appointments can be booked on
01255 673598.
