Join the young farmers

Frinton and Walton Gazette - 22nd October 2004

Young farmers are holding a special recruitment evening to encourage more people to join them.

The Wix Young Farmers Club has 54 members from the whole of the Tendring area.  They meet every Thursday at the Kings Arms pub, Colchester Road, St Osyth.

Clara Bloom, secretary of the club, said:  ”We are not all farmers.  I am a nanny.  Each Sunday we do a sporting event and compete with other counties.

“We do so much charity work and it’s very sociable.”

And from their charity work the group has raised thousands of pounds which they will be donating to different local charities.  These include £500 for the Haematology unit at Colchester Hospital and both CRY and Headway will get £750 each.  A further £1,500 will go to Ellie Perryman, a Clacton girl who was born with a rare condition called glutaric aciduria type 1.

And a new young farmers building is also under development at the moment and £500 will go towards that as well.

At their meeting different speakers also attended to give talks to the young farmers.

The recruitment evening is being held on October 28 at the Kings Arm pub.  To be a young farmer you must be between 16 and 26.  But there are also junior clubs available for youngsters aged between ten and 16.
