Frome
fundraiser Shirley Wort has held a display stall in the library to raise
awareness for the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
Mrs Wort, from the Critchill
Estate, has set up the stall in Frome Library as part of CRY’s awareness week,
organised as a celebration of the charity’s tenth anniversary.
Since Mrs Wort lost her son to
a rare heart condition five years ago, she has felt compelled to raise
awareness of the disease which claimed his life.
In her efforts towards this
aim she has raised thousands of pounds for CRY and founded the Julian Wort
Memorial Appeal.
Mrs Wort said: “I have already
raised a total of £17,500 for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young, which has
gone towards equipment such as an ECG for the Frome Medical Practice and a
defibrillator for Frome’s Victoria Hospital.”
The information, brochures and
leaflets on the stall give information about CRY, including the counselling
and support it provides and why the organisation is campaigning for a national
screening programme.
Mrs Wort said: “Frome Golf Club is also
getting involved in the awareness week, organising various fundraising events,
as the captain has chosen CRY as their charity.”
