Over £25,000 raised by Frome family in memory of son

Frome Times -  25th September 2008

The family of a popular Frome man who died of a rare heart condition eight years ago reached a fundraising milestone recently, having now raised over £25,000 for charity.

On Friday 12th September, the family of Julian Wort will present vital heart monitoring equipment to Frome Community Hospitals.  The equipment has been bought through funds raised by the family in memory of Julian, who died suddenly of a rare heart condition.

Since 2001, Julian's family have raised £25,694 for Julian's Memorial Fund that is held with CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).

Shirley Wort, Julian's mother, said, "This is our fourth piece of heart monitoring equipment that we have donated through the generosity of the local community, and family and friends.

"We have donated two ECG machines, one to the Frome Medical Practice, and one to the hospital minor injuries unit, and this latest AED 20 defibrillator is the second one to the minor injuries unit.

"We are also presenting an engraved plaque in Julian's memory for the new injuries unit at the new community hospital."

CRY is a registered charity which raises awareness of sudden death in young people.  Every week at least eight apparently 'fit and healthy' young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions in the UK.  For more information on CRY visit www.c-r-ry.or.uk
