Villagers raise funds in memory of Andrew

The Garstang Courier - 12th May 2006

When the Inglewhite community was called upon to support a charity event in memory of a young Woodplumpton man who died tragically two years ago - they did just that!

In fact, they raised an amazing £1,700 in memory of Andrew Parr for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) at Saturday's Coffee Morning held at Inglewhite Church.

The coffee morning was organised by Andrew's family with volunteer helpers from the church to raise funds to bring the charity's mobile screening unit to Preston so that young people in the city can be given an ECG (electrocardiogram) test when can detect abnormalities of the heart.

Every week at least eight apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions in the UK.

Besides the coffee morning which included bric-a-brac, plant and cake stalls and competitions, there was also a popular car wash.

Over 100 people attended and Inglewhite church Pastor Mike Faun, who had called on everyone to rally round in memory of Andrew, said the figure was "amazing", adding that their thanks went to everyone who volunteered to help and also supported the event in any way.
