Cry Concert

Gateshead Herald & Post  -12th July 2006

Saltwell Social Club recently held a concert in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young, the charity better known as CRY.

The charity funds research into cardiac disease in the young, and was chosen by the club because one of the barmaids, Dorothy Fairley, lost a grandson, Dean Henderson, to heart disease last year.

To recognise Dorothy's service to the club on her retirement, the committee decided to sponsor a charity night in aid of CRY.

The evening featured Bernadette Wild and her band, and there was a grand raffle with prizes donated by the club's suppliers and Dean's many friends and family.

The night was a resounding success, raising a marvellous £2,513.80, and a cheque was received on behalf of CRY by Tony Clark, sales director of Newcastle Breweries, who said that the charity night was a great example of a social club playing its role in the community.

More donations came after the event, bringing the grand total to a brilliant £2,853.
