More than 100 golfers held their breath on
Sunday morning before it was announced that Little Hay Golf Course could open
for their charity tournament after the previous day's continual rain.
They had feared the course might be too
waterlogged, but Sunday's glorious sunshine quickly lifted their spirits.
The tournament included five women golfers for
the first time this year and raised more than £3,000 for the national charity
Cardiac Risk in the Young, which is hoping to launch a nation screening
programme to identify and treat potential young victims of sudden death.
Keeley Ashley has organised the annual event
since her brother, Howard Jenning, died from heart failure four years ago at the
age of 33. Keeley has raised more than £17,000 since the family tragedy.
She said: 'This was our most successful
tournament to date and our special thanks go to Howard's former employers Atlas
Copco who continue to support our fundraising, and to Hemel Trophies and
Jewellers who provided this year's trophies.' the first ever women's trophy was
won by Christine Osborne and the men's title went to Gary Peck, who was also the
winner two years ago.
