'Girl' - by James Poynton

James Poynton wrote the words for 'Girl' when he was 8 years old. Just before his 12th birthday, James died suddenly of an undiagnosed heart condition.

Whilst he was alive, James asked his friend Barry Waring to set the words to music. Barry did so, and subsequently was honoured to be asked to play the finished song at James' funeral. The song has now been recorded under the band name Daywalker (Barry Waring and Dave Robinson perform the track).

James died on the 9th June 2006 at 8.00pm on a lovely sunny evening whilst walking on the beach in West Kirby with his family and friends.

Everybody liked James; you could not fail to be captivated by his charm, warmth and lovely cheeky nature. He was clever, witty and handsome, an excellent sportsman and budding musician.

He was also an excellent communicator and listener and he had the ability to make you feel special. James accomplished so many things, and was probably going on to achieve much more.

He was always positive about life, encouraged people rather than criticised them and cared more about ‘taking part’ rather than winning.

His life should not of ended so soon but, in the 12 years that he was with us, we can only be grateful to have had the opportunity to share our lives with such a wonderful boy. James gave us so much pride and joy and we will always remember him and the good times we had together.
