Great North Run - 5th October 2008

In many respects the Great North Run rivals the London Marathon, with more starters and finishers.  Cardiac Risk in the Young has a number of guaranteed places every year for the BUPA Great North Run.

CRY has now filled all of its charity places for the 2008 Great North Run.  However, if you have secured your 'own place' in the event and would like to join the CRY team, please e-mail kerry@c-r-y.org.uk

The Great North Run has grown over the course of its history to become the world's biggest half marathon.

It is also Britain's biggest running event with 70,000 entries.

Today the Great North Run is recognised as a major sporting event both nationally and internationally.

The successful formula of the Great North Run has been used to develop a complete programme of major running events throughout the year called Great Run.

The Great North Run has a long association with charity fundraising.  The 2002 event saw 18,000 participants running for charity, raising over £8 million.

Every year we buy charity places in the Great North Run, and allocate these to runners who will commit to raising at least £350 to enable us to continue our work.  Sponsorship forms and posters will be supplied along with a choice of T-shirt, running vest or the infamous CRY heart costume.

The Great North Run in memory of David Staff by Gillian Haddow
Saturday 21st. October - the eve of the Great North Run 2000. I was sitting in a B & B somewhere to the west of Durham City, and feeling extra-ordinarily nervous. I can honestly say that the three leaves of lettuce and a single cherry tomato that I had consumed earlier weren't going to help me get through thirteen miles the following day."....
Great North Run by Marje Scott
In February 2000, around Mike’s 21st Birthday I decided that I wanted to do something for him, something ‘big’, something I had never attempted before. I decided to compete in the Great North Run.  Training started at the end of May, very slowly at first, which was just as well, as I had never run since leaving school - too many years before.....
