A fundraising event in memory of a popular young man whose sudden death in June devastated family and friends is taking place tomorrow.

As reported in the Mercury on January 11, Simon Cullum died, aged 29, and now his mother Marilyn wants to raise money for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).  The charity funds research into Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) - which took Simon's life- and supports those left behind. 

A coffee morning with stalls, refreshments and raffle is being held at St Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Lowestoft Road, Gorleston, tomorrow at 10.30am. 

Mrs Cullum, of Lowestoft Road, said that since the Mercury article she had been contacted by several of Simon's mates pledging their support and by a local lady who had lost her husband to SADS. 

Simon was well known in the car-cruising community, earning the nickname The Daddy, and is among at least eight apparently fit, young people to die every week of undiagnosed heart conditions. 

Entry to the coffee morning is 50p, including tea and a biscuit.
