Over 80 members and guests competed for the Marcus
Armstrong Memorial Golf Trophy at the Harwich and Dovercourt Golf Club.
The course and weather was absolutely superb and
some excellent scores were recorded. The individual winner was Aaron
Good, who played in the morning, recording an outstanding score of 45 points
playing off a handicap of 17.
Second place went to Jake Neale with 42 points and
Aida Armstrong was third with 41 points.
The best team score was won by Neil Blackburn,
Aaron Good, Charlie Dennis and Rod Osborne.
The yellow ball winners were Trevor Armstrong,
Arfa Bennett, Stuart Barr and Paul Day.
Best scratch was Dale Goaling. Nearest the
pin (11 inches) winner was Jordon Slater and longest driver (311 yards)
winner was Lee Rodgers.
The biggest winners, however, was the Bursary Fund
at the Golf Club whose funds were boosted by over £1,600 and the charity
Cardiac Risk in the Young who had nearly £500 raised which will go towards
the cost of another cardiac screening in the area.
Players and friends of Marcus came from as far
away as Spain and Newcastle to play in an event that has become an integral
part of the Harwich Golf Club calendar.
Marcus was a quality golfer at the club until his
sudden death three years ago aged only 28 from an undetected heart
condition.
Over £20,000 has been raised in his memory towards
sponsoring localised cardiac screening events with the first one being held
at the Harwich and Parkeston Football ground on Saturday, August 1 when 120
people between the ages of 14 and 35 will be screened.
