Gone but not forgotten. Totnes will be
remembering Ollie Marsden when they play Withycombe at Borough Park next
Sunday (March 29.)
Marsden, a second-row forward, collapsed and died
during a Totnes training session last October. He was just 21.
The trainee teacher had been studying at the
University of Plymouth and part of his course has been at Rolle College in
Exmouth. While there he had turned out for Withycombe.
Both clubs were stunned by Ollie's death and have
got together to play a charity match in his memory. The beneficiary
will be Cardiac Risk in the Young, a charity which carries out heart tests
on sporty youngsters to check for irregularities.
Totnes are organising a mammoth raffle to help
swell the charity coffers. Other fund-raising efforts include a
touching collection and generous offer from Totnes to donate 10 per cent of
that day's bar takings.
Officials from both clubs are hoping the match
will become an annual event.
"It would be an appropriate thing to do for a
smashing young lad," said Totnes committee man John Massey.
