An annual golf day held on Saturday in
memory of Hemel Hempstead man Howard Jennings has been hailed as a great
success.
Little Hay golf complex hosted the eighth
annual tournament in memory of Howard who died suddenly in 1996 from a genetic
heart condition.
Keeley Ashley, Howard’s sister, organises the
event. She said: “My involvement with CRY has helped me to come to terms with
the loss of my brother.
“I am keen to support CRY in order to raise
awareness of these conditions in the hope that other young people will not
die, and other families will not have to deal with the loss of a child.”
The event has now raised more than £2,300 for
the charity this year, and in total the event has raised £30,000 since the
first tournament seven years ago.
In
all, 64 players took part on Saturday, including a large party from Atlas
Copco where Howard used to work. The winner was David Anderson (left - being
presented the winner's trophy by Howard's mum Phyllis) with Lee Scarborough
and David Chambers finishing second and third. The longest drive came from
James Ross, and the ‘nearest the pin’ competition was won by Terry Lee. The
ladies medal was won by Roxanne Masters.
Keeley was keen to
thank everyone who took part in helping to make it a ‘really successful’
event, especially Hemel Trophies and Jewellers.
